Revel to Host Visiting Scholars in the Fall
Revel is pleased to host two distinguished scholars this fall who will meet with our students and faculty, and deliver guest lectures that highlight the larger cultural contexts in which medieval Jewish biblical interpretation (parshanut ha-miqra) emerged.
路Andrew B. Kraebel of Yale University, an authority on medieval Christian Bible interpretation, will be speaking on Thursday, October 25th at 8pm, preceded by a dinner with students and faculty. His lecture title: 鈥How Did Rashi鈥檚 Christian Neighbors Interpret the Bible?鈥
路Meir Bar-Asher of the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an authority on Shiite Islam and Qur鈥檃n interpretation, will be speaking on Monday, December 10th at 8pm, preceded by a dinner with students and faculty. His lecture title: 鈥Saadia Gaon on the Bible in Light of Muslim Interpretation of the Qur鈥檃n.鈥
Both of these scholars participated in the 14-member international research project 鈥Encountering Scripture in Overlapping Cultures: Early Jewish, Christian and Muslim Strategies of Reading and Their Contemporary Implications鈥 directed by Revel Associate Dean Mordechai Cohen at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Jerusalem in 2010/11.
